Thats right, I said Wii-Hab. Nursing homes are beginning to use the Wii gaming console to help stroke patients and other people that need physical therapy. I’m sure, as you all know, the Wii revolves around the motion sensor controller, and most of the time also where you are pointing on the screen. Stoke victims are able to try and practice various games on the Wii, and are actually able to “keep track” of their progress by seeing how well they do in the game.
As you can imagine, the Wii could be A LOT more fun than annoying exercises trying to regain motor skills. The various games get people involved and it holds their attention. It helps to make the recovery process less of a nuisance. And plus, everyone has to admit it, the Wii is fun, so it will help the patients stay a little fun even. So far there is no solid evidence that can prove playing the Wii can actually speed up recovery though. But a hospital in Minneapolis is about to conduct a large study to see if the Wii actually physically helps the patients, or if it just makes their stay less agonizing.
